As autumn approaches, it’s once again the time of year when we start reflecting on key interior trends and predicting which ones will remain relevant in the year ahead. Among the most significant themes are color trends, which play a crucial role in shaping the design and décor of our homes.

Since I spend a considerable amount of time exploring color trends and paint shades—from specific hues to broader palettes—I decided to look back at the past year and offer some (early) color predictions for 2025.

Throughout 2024, dark, earthy tones have maintained their timeless appeal, creating cozy and warm spaces. More specifically, color trends such as deep green and chocolate brown have become some of the most popular choices—and for good reason. They bring a sense of calm while adding a dramatic flair to our homes.

At the start of the year, Shea McGee’s pantry makeover showcased a dark green paint choice, proving to us all how these rich, moody shades can make the perfect—and slightly unexpected—color choice for small rooms, adding drama and interest.

Moreover, these colors are sure to truly shine as autumn arrives. Considering their popularity throughout the year, even during the summer months, it’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing much more of deep browns and rich greens during the fall and winter seasons. I fully expect these shades to remain in vogue in the coming year.

Since the unexpected red color trend burst onto the interior design scene at the start of 2024, this vibrant shade has become a standout trend, leaving a remarkable impact. While red is often seen as a bold choice reserved for lovers of maximalist color schemes, the renewed conversation around this hue has made many—including myself—reconsider its appeal.

The unexpected charm of the red trend lies in its subtle use to enhance a room’s overall appeal. However, red can also be used to define the color scheme of an entire space. While this might seem intimidating, many designers have demonstrated how successful decorating with red can be, and I find myself increasingly drawn to this vibrant shade.

Looking ahead to 2025, I predict that red will continue to feature prominently in home décor trends. When Behr recently unveiled Rumors—a rich, warming ruby-red—as their Color of the Year for 2025, I was thrilled to see this shade evolving in a sophisticated way that enhances spaces without overwhelming them.

One of my favorite color trends this year has been the use of soft blues and greens as a replacement for more traditional neutral palettes. These muted shades provide an excellent way to add interest to rooms while maintaining a timeless and elegant look.

In this serene bedroom designed by Samantha Ware Design, the walls are painted in Cromarty by Farrow & Ball—a soothing, muted gray-green that highlights the sophisticated appeal of such gentle tones. Similarly, HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams recently announced Quietude as its Color of the Year 2025—a calming blue-green, further solidifying these tranquil hues as enduring choices for the upcoming year.

When it comes to decorating with neutral tones, one standout trend this year has been the growing appeal of warm neutrals over cooler shades. Throughout 2024, I’ve noticed a significant use of warm neutrals in interior design projects, and I can’t imagine this trend fading as we move into 2025.

More specifically, it’s the subtle difference between cooler whites and those with a soft yellow undertone. While there’s nothing wrong with cooler whites—especially in well-lit, south-facing rooms—they can sometimes come across as harsh or even cold, which is the opposite of the cozy, relaxed feeling many of us aim for in our spaces.

Beyond the best warm white paints, this trend extends to deeper neutral tones as well. From beige hues to darker grays, there’s a noticeable shift toward shades with subtle warm undertones, and I fully expect this color trend to gain even more traction in the coming year.

Finally, and while this isn’t a specific color trend, I couldn’t skip over the concept of color saturation in this review. Color saturation is when one color is used throughout an entire room, “soaking” the room completely, from the walls and doors to the ceiling, trim, and built-in cabinetry.

This is one of my favorite trends in paint right now, and I look forward to seeing how designers will embrace it in 2025. The days of using bold paint colors on accent walls are dwindling, and there’s a good reason for that: by committing to a single color throughout a room, it creates a much more cohesive look and avoids the awkward cuts that often come with highly contrasting tones.

Having seen how stylish color saturation can be—whether in bold shades in small rooms or mid-tones in social spaces—I fully expect it to continue its popularity throughout 2025.

Only time will tell how accurate these early predictions are, but these five trends certainly possess a timeless quality, giving them a level of longevity in the world of design.
